The Staley Agreement settled a Federal
class action lawsuit filed in 2000 by
Medicaid-eligible adults with developmental disabilities who had spent years on long wait lists for services.
What does the Staley Agreement do?
• Entitles all eligible adults with developmental disabilities to a limited amount of service by 2009.
• Provides residential services to 300 Medicaid-eligible adults with developmental disabilities by 2009.
What does a Community-Based Support
Brokerage do?
• Under the service design of the Staley Agreement, community-based support brokerages provide planning support and help adults with developmental disabilities link with community resources and locate and purchase needed services, such as job development or assistance for personal care needs.
Does the Staley Agreement meet all the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families?
• No. The Staley agreement provides limited funding
to provide a minimum amount of in-home support or community-based activity for an individual with developmental disabilities.
• The average amount of money available is about $800/month per individual. The Staley Agreement does not meet all of the needs of some individuals and their families.
